About Us
Find government information and data on the federal, state, and local levels, reference resources on intergovernmental organizations, the largest collection of maps in the state of Indiana as well as microform materials and scanners. GIMMS is also home to Indiana University’s Federal Depository Library, a U.S. Government Publishing Office program aimed to connect community members with free access to government information and the tools to utilize it. In 2020, Herman B Wells was named Library of the Year by the U.S. Government Publishing Office for the creative ways GIMMS connects people with information about the federal government. The Herman B Wells Library is one of just over 1,000 designated libraries in the Federal Depository Library Program, 30 of which operate in Indiana.
Summer 2024 Hours
Monday 5/6 through Sunday 8/4
Note that these hours merely indicate the days/times that the GIMMS public service desk is staffed with personnel available to complete circulation transactions and assist patrons in finding materials, accessing some special materials as well as utilizing equipment. The GIMMS space, equipment and most materials will be accessible to patrons outside of these hours whenever the building is open.
Sundays: 1PM-5PM
Mondays through Fridays: 8AM-5PM
Saturdays: Closed
Exceptions
- Monday 5/27: Closed (Building is closed) in observance of Memorial Day
- Wednesday 6/19: Closed (Building is closed) in observance of Juneteenth
- Monday 6/24 - Friday 7/5: Closed for GIMMS Summer Break*
*The building will be open as usual during this time, with the exception of Thursday 7/4 (Independence Day). Patrons may continue to utilize space, most materials and equipment independently during normal building hours.
